Dead Pen Productions began as a silly name to put on a high school English project. Based on a mispronunciation of Thea van Diepen’s last name, it ended up sticking in their head, waiting to be used in a more official capacity.

In 2017, Thea released The Tree and the Grave, thinking to keep it and any other games they made within the umbrella of their fiction writing. After they began work on You Are Stuck in a Maze, however, they realized their games might need a space of their own, no need to play second fiddle to anything. Thus, in 2023, Thea started creating a website.

But what to call it?

Thea toyed with a few different ideas until finally realizing that they didn’t need to come up with something new when they already had something they loved. With that, Dead Pen Productions was truly born.
